Ex_project

Hi everyone!
I finally finished my project, my artwork... Whatever you call it)
The project was done on Unreal Engine 5, using lots of Quixel Megascans objects for the environment. The montage was done in DaVinci Resolve 17. The rest of the obvious software does not make sense to list.

In short, about the project.
In fact, this scene - is a "sandbox" as part of a study of UE 4 and UE 5. Going through a lot of changes and transformations, time, stresses and victories turned out this clip)
Enjoy watching it)

More details.
I ported my house model into Unreal Engine 4 (more on this later), and started to explore lighting, texturing, how shaders, LODs, vegetation, particles and other available stuff.
After a while I got more interested in not just adding random stuff to the scene, so It was decided to work on the environment. Than I met Quixel Megascans.) I couldn't be happier - very detailed scans with 10 levels of LODs, 2-8k textures, and a very handy importing system.
Everything was going great, the scene was getting bigger, more details, and I didn't even notice when my fps started to drop below 20... My 2070 RTX wasn't able to handle it anymore.
I had to come down to earth and do some optimization. That's another important lesson - planning saves time! Trite but true) I created LODs of my furniture and decor, reduced the resolution of textures, and removed various effects. It helped, fps was now holding 30-60, sometimes dropping to 20.
I was about to think about making a small game level, since I started to learn, so I'll take it all at once).
And... Unreal Engine 5 came out in early access. When I saw the showreel I thought to myself "no freaking way, it can't, come on, are you kidding me?". So naturally I decided to port the scene there (by the way the import works very well, almost without noticeable changes).
When I tried Nanite just couldn't believe my eyes. Immediately started to remake the whole scene again, all the possible elements of the location translated into Nanite, adding new ones, increasing the resolution of textures and killed all the LODs), now I can do everything).
The scene began to grow with new elements, vegetation, particle systems (here I'm not a master, modified ready presets).
And the scene ceased. I didn't have enough memory for DX12, so it only opened on DX11, so it didn't work... I had to get out of many interesting ideas, but at least I was able to put a point. I was forced)
At this point, It was decided to leave my work alone and start creating, for now, a video. The process of choosing perspectives, camera movements and so on was started.
Then a long process of montage, for me it was a completely new area, I had to learn DaVinci Resolve 17. Terrific program! If you don't know it, I recommend it. It is quite intuitive and not very complicated (especially after 3dsMax and UE, you know)).
Anyway. I wanted to make an atmospheric, bright video, so that people would see the location as I see it. Whether you succeeded or not) Write to me, I am very interested!

Behind the scenes.
A couple of years ago I was inspired by a very unusual building, at that time I could not find almost any drawings on the web, but I found a dozen of pictures of the facade, as well as some pictures of the interior and some footage from the movie (spoiler)).
I was inspired by the architecture, the atmosphere and God how beautiful the nature of Norway is! I really wanted to recreate something similar, I didn't want to replicate, I wanted to add something of my own, to make a home for myself and family.
Back in 2015 I saw the movie Ex Machina, by the way a very good picture with a nice idea and great realization, there I saw this location, many shots were filmed exactly in this house. I got interested and the idea appeared.
After 2 or 3 years I decided to bring it to life. I was working with long pauses, a baby, a lot of work, and it was difficult to find free time and inspiration at the same time.
By the time I ported the scene in UE5 I had a second daughter).
I'm telling you, kids are great, the best thing that can be!...but forget about the time, for a while)
But they are my muses!
Sorry for the sentiment, just wanted to share)
